Coping With Eye Allergies

Eye allergies can cause red, stinging, burning eyes that make people feel miserable and helpless, regardless of whether they have symptoms only at some times of the year (seasonal allergic conjunctivitis) or all year around (perennial conjunctivitis). Living with eye allergies is easier when the cause is identified so that exposure can be limited. The best person to help do that is a doctor. Sometimes, referral to an allergy specialist is necessary.

Some common substances that trigger eye allergies are:

  • Animal dander
  • Dust
  • Molds
  • Pollen from grass, trees, and weeds

You can help someone you live with cope with eye allergies by taking steps to minimize exposure to these substances. That may mean keeping the windows closed during spring when pollen is in the air. Encourage your loved one to wear glasses or sunglasses outside. Keep any pets out of the bedroom. And avoid outdoor activities such as picnics and camping.

The good news is that eye allergies can be treated. Finding the right medication can be crucial. One option is Zaditor™, which can be used by children as young as 3 years old. Zaditor provides relief from itchy allergy eyes in just minutes and lasts up to 12 hours.
