Visudyne® (verteporfin for injection) therapy for treating a certain form of "wet AMD" was recognized by Popular Science, Business Week, and TIME magazines as one of the "Top Products of the Year." In addition, Vitravene® (fomivirsen sodium), an intravitreal injection for local treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in AIDS patients who are intolerant of or have a contraindication to other treatment(s) for CMV retinitis or who were insufficiently responsive to previous treatment(s) for CMV retinitis, earned the prestigious European award for innovation, the Galenus Prize. (Vitravene has since been discontinued but is still available for compassionate use while supplies last.)
